Matías Soulé celebrated Roma’s dramatic victory over Atalanta and backed the Giallorossi to improve on last season, while refusing to discuss a possible title race with Inter.
Matías Soulé believes Roma can compete for significant objectives this season following their dramatic 2-1 victory over Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico.
The Argentine transformed the match after entering for Rodrigo Mora in the 54th minute. Soulé delivered the corner for Mario Hermoso’s equalizer before scoring the winning goal in the 93rd minute.
His decisive contribution completed an extraordinary turnaround and preserved Roma’s perfect start to the Serie A season.
Soulé: “We must continue fighting until the end”
Speaking to DAZN after the final whistle, Soulé described the result as an incredible moment for the team and its supporters.
“It is an incredible joy, not only for us but also for the fans. It was a beautiful match and a deserved result. Fortunately, we won.
“It has been a wonderful start and we must continue like this, fighting until the end. This team can compete for many things and remain near the top.”
Roma had controlled much of the match but fell behind when Éderson scored shortly after halftime. Gasperini’s side continued applying pressure, with Santiago Castro striking the woodwork twice before Hermoso and Soulé completed the comeback.
The victory gave Roma nine points from their opening three matches following consecutive 4-0 wins over Fiorentina and Lecce. The Giallorossi have scored 10 goals and conceded only once.

Soulé responds to Roma’s title credentials
Soulé was also asked by Sky Sport whether Roma could become Inter’s principal challenger this season.
The 23-year-old refused to make an early prediction but made clear that Roma intend to improve on the campaign that secured their return to the Champions League.
“Are we the anti-Inter? I don’t know. It is too early to talk about that. Obviously, by performing like this, we deserved our Champions League qualification last season, and this year we want to do even better.”
Roma have made an ideal start, but the season will become increasingly demanding with their Champions League campaign beginning against Fenerbahçe in Istanbul on September 10.
Soulé named Roma’s standout performer
Soulé’s goal and assist earned him widespread praise from the Italian press.
Ratings from six major Italian newspapers gave the attacker an average score of 7.83, the highest received by any Roma player. Corriere dello Sport awarded him 8.5, while La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Tempo both gave him 8.
