Gian Piero Gasperini has become only the third coach in Roma history to win eight consecutive Serie A matches, joining Luciano Spalletti and Rudi Garcia.
From Atalanta to Atalanta, with a summer break and Champions League qualification in between: Roma’s remarkable winning run has now reached eight league matches.
The sequence began after the Giallorossi drew 1-1 with Atalanta on April 18. Gasperini’s team have won every Serie A fixture since then, completing the run with last weekend’s dramatic 2-1 victory over the same opponent.
Gasperini joins Spalletti and Garcia
Gasperini is only the third Roma coach to record eight successive Serie A victories.
Luciano Spalletti achieved the feat on two occasions. His second spell began with an eight-match winning streak between January and March 2016, while his first produced a historic sequence of 11 consecutive victories during the 2005/06 campaign.
Rudi Garcia also created two memorable winning runs during the 2013/14 season. Roma opened that campaign with 10 consecutive victories before later recording another nine-match winning sequence between March and April.
Gasperini has now joined that exclusive group, achieving something that even title-winning Roma coaches Fabio Capello and Nils Liedholm did not manage.
Roma’s eight-match winning run
Roma’s last Serie A match without a victory was the 1-1 draw against Atalanta on April 18. Mario Hermoso scored in that game before again finding the net against the Bergamo club during the latest meeting.
The Giallorossi have won the following eight league matches:

The closing five victories of last season lifted Roma into an unexpected third-place finish and secured their return to the Champions League.
Despite an inconsistent preseason, Gasperini’s side immediately rediscovered its competitive intensity when the new campaign began.
Comebacks demonstrate Roma’s new mentality
The winning streak is significant not only because of the results, but also because of how Roma achieved them.
Against Parma last season, the Giallorossi trailed 2-1 before scoring twice between the 94th and 101st minutes to claim a remarkable 3-2 victory.
A similarly determined response arrived against Atalanta. Roma fell behind despite dominating the match, hit the woodwork twice and repeatedly found Marco Carnesecchi in their way.
Hermoso finally equalized in the 90th minute before Matias Soulé completed the sensational comeback against Atalanta in stoppage time.
Those two victories illustrate a team that no longer allows setbacks to remove it from a match. Roma have developed the belief, physical strength and attacking mentality required to keep pushing until the final whistle.
Gasperini has united Roma around a common objective
Gasperini deserves considerable credit for the psychological and tactical transformation.
The coach has created a united dressing room and an aggressive team that plays with greater pace, verticality and determination. The players have embraced his principles, while the supporters have increasingly identified with the intensity displayed on the pitch.
Roma’s perfect start has inevitably created early discussion about a possible Scudetto challenge. Both Fabio Capello and Francesco Totti have identified the Giallorossi among Inter’s principal competitors.
Gasperini, however, continues to urge caution. The season is still in its opening weeks, and Roma must now prove they can maintain their standards while competing on multiple fronts.
Champions League provides Roma’s next challenge
Roma’s winning run provides a considerable injection of confidence before the club’s return to the Champions League.
The Giallorossi will face Fenerbahçe in Istanbul on Thursday, September 10, in their first appearance in the competition for more than seven years.
Gasperini’s team will attempt to carry its domestic momentum into Europe against a difficult opponent and an intense atmosphere.
The eight consecutive Serie A victories already place this Roma team in distinguished company. The next objective is to demonstrate that the same hunger and resilience can make an impact on the Champions League stage.
