Alberto De Rossi has opened up on leaving Roma after more than three decades and beginning a new chapter as president of Ostiamare.
After spending 32 years with Roma, Alberto De Rossi left the Giallorossi during the summer and returned to his roots by accepting the presidency of Ostiamare.
The former head of Roma’s youth sector discussed his departure, his new position and his relationship with his son Daniele during an interview with Corriere dello Sport.
De Rossi: “I Will Always Carry Roma With Me”
De Rossi’s time at Trigoria extended far beyond a conventional coaching career. He played an influential role in the development of numerous academy players and became one of the most recognizable figures within Roma’s youth system.
“After more than 30 years, a human and professional journey came to an end—one that gave me experiences, satisfaction and relationships that I will always carry with me.”
Despite leaving his professional position, De Rossi emphasized that his emotional connection with the club remains unchanged.
“Returning to your roots represents something equally profound. I was, and remain, a supporter.”
His departure came amid a wider restructuring of Roma’s academy, which recently continued with the appointment of Edoardo Pane as youth academy coordinator.
Working Alongside Daniele De Rossi
Alberto De Rossi also spoke about working with his son Daniele, who is currently coaching Genoa. Their relationship continues to combine football, friendship and family.
“We exchange ideas, as we do with the entire working group. We are colleagues, friends and family. My daughter is also here with us.”
Daniele has begun building his own project at Genoa, where he recently reunited with former Roma teammate Stephan El Shaarawy.
Support for Serie C Reserve Teams
The former Roma academy director also reiterated his support for reserve teams competing in Serie C, believing they can provide an important bridge between youth and senior football.
“I have always supported second teams. I understand that they represent a cost for some clubs—not everyone can afford to invest between €8 million and €12 million—but the top clubs should have them to help young players develop.”
For De Rossi, the move to Ostiamare represents a new challenge without erasing the importance of Roma. His work at Trigoria may have ended, but his connection with the Giallorossi remains permanent.
