Devyne Rensch is reportedly set to start Roma’s Champions League opener against Fenerbahçe, with Wesley operating on the opposite flank.
Gian Piero Gasperini has reportedly made his decision on Roma’s right flank ahead of tonight’s Champions League match against Fenerbahçe.
According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Devyne Rensch will start the game in Istanbul, joining Wesley as one of Roma’s two wing-backs.
Rensch Preferred Over Molina and Lulli
The latest update represents a change from the earlier indications surrounding Gasperini’s starting lineup.
Nahuel Molina had initially appeared to be the favorite to start on the right, with Emanuele Lulli another available option. Gasperini has instead reportedly decided to trust Rensch from the opening minute.
The Dutchman recently recovered from an injury and was included in Roma’s travelling squad for the match in Istanbul.
Rensch’s versatility allows him to operate either as a wing-back or within the defensive line. His selection would provide Roma with additional balance on the right as Wesley continues in his familiar role on the left.
Roma’s Remaining Lineup Decisions
Roma’s established defensive unit of Gianluca Mancini, Evan Ndicka and Mario Hermoso is still expected to begin in front of Mile Svilar.
Bryan Cristante and Manu Koné should start in central midfield, while Paulo Dybala and Donyell Malen are expected to retain their places in attack.
The principal remaining doubt concerns the selection of Matias Soulé or Rodrigo Mora. Most of the Italian newspapers had predicted Soulé would start, although Gasperini’s final choice will only be confirmed when the official lineup is announced.
The earlier newspaper lineup predictions had largely favored Molina on the right, making Rensch’s reported inclusion the most significant late change.
