Inter assistant coach Aleksandar Kolarov will miss Saturday’s Serie A match against Roma after receiving a two-game touchline suspension.
The disciplinary decisions from Matchday 4 were confirmed by the Serie A sporting judge following Inter’s 5-3 comeback victory over Udinese and Roma’s 2-0 win against Torino.
Kolarov, who represented both Roma and Inter during his playing career, will therefore be unable to support Cristian Chivu from the technical area when the Nerazzurri visit the Stadio Olimpico.
Kolarov receives two-match suspension and fine
Kolarov was dismissed during the first half of Inter’s match against Udinese after protesting against the referee.
The sporting judge imposed a two-match suspension and a €5,000 fine on the former Serbian international.
According to the official disciplinary statement, Kolarov was punished for directing a disrespectful criticism toward the referee in the 19th minute of the first half. He then reportedly used another disrespectful expression after being shown the red card.
Inter had fallen behind during the opening 20 minutes at San Siro before recovering to win 5-3.
The suspension means Kolarov will miss an emotional return to the Olimpico, where he represented Roma between 2017 and 2020. He made 132 appearances for the Giallorossi before joining Inter.
Hermoso and Pisilli receive yellow cards
Roma also received two disciplinary sanctions during their victory in Turin.
Mario Hermoso collected his second yellow card of the Serie A season after being booked in the 61st minute.
Niccolò Pisilli was shown his first yellow card of the campaign in the 72nd minute. The academy graduate later scored Roma’s second goal in stoppage time, emphatically finishing the move that secured the three points.
Neither player is at immediate risk of suspension, and both remain available for Gasperini against Inter.
Roma and Inter prepare for major showdown
The fourth Serie A matchday concluded with victories for both Roma and Inter, increasing the anticipation surrounding their direct meeting in the capital.
Roma enter the contest with a perfect record after winning their opening four league matches. Gasperini’s team have also recorded nine consecutive Serie A victories dating back to last season.
Inter remain one of the primary title favourites, but could arrive at the Olimpico without several important figures. In addition to Kolarov’s suspension, Hakan Calhanoglu and John Stones are injury doubts.
Marcus Thuram has already warned his teammates that Inter must take Roma seriously following the Giallorossi’s exceptional start.
