Domenico Berardi and Cristian Volpato will miss Sassuolo’s trip to Roma through injury, Alberto Aquilani confirmed at his pre-match press conference.
The visitors will be without both attackers at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday evening, leaving Aquilani with fewer options as he tries to halt a run of four consecutive defeats.
Berardi ruled out, Volpato misses Roma return
Berardi’s absence is a significant setback for Sassuolo. Their main attacking reference point had been expected to start, but a fitness problem has ruled him out. The nature of the injury and his recovery timetable have not yet been specified.
Volpato will also miss the opportunity to face his former club at the Olimpico. The former Roma youngster was already absent against Fiorentina because of a muscle problem and has not recovered in time.
Aquilani must now adjust his attack, with Armand Laurienté and Sebastiano Esposito among the players still available.
Sassuolo arrive after four straight defeats
The double absence adds to Sassuolo’s difficulties ahead of the trip to the capital. The Neroverdi have lost their last four matches, conceding 16 goals across that run.
Roma, meanwhile, are looking to respond to their Champions League defeat at Manchester United and head into the international break with a victory.
Gasperini has fitness concerns of his own, with Roma assessing Koné, Dybala and Gollini ahead of the Sassuolo match. Devyne Rensch also faces around 20 days out following his adductor injury at Old Trafford.
Kick-off at the Olimpico is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, at 20:45 Italian time.
