Luiz Henrique playing for Zenit St. Petersburg amid continued transfer interest from Roma

Luiz Henrique Remains on Roma’s Radar Ahead of January Transfer Window

Roma continue to monitor Luiz Henrique after technical and bureaucratic complications prevented the Brazilian winger’s move from Zenit St. Petersburg during the final days of the summer transfer window.

Among the players still being followed by Roma ahead of the January transfer window is Luiz Henrique. The Zenit St. Petersburg attacker came close to joining the Giallorossi during the final stages of the summer market, but the operation could not be completed due to technical and bureaucratic complications.

Roma Had Agreements With Zenit and Luiz Henrique

Roma sporting director Tony D’Amico recently confirmed that the club had reached agreements with both Zenit and the player. However, the parties were unable to formalize the transfer before the deadline.

The outcome reportedly disappointed Luiz Henrique, who had approved the move and was prepared to continue his career in the Italian capital.

D’Amico subsequently explained that unspecified technical issues prevented Roma from completing the operation, forcing the club to consider alternatives during the closing stages of the window.

The sporting director discussed the failed deal during his first Roma press conference.

Luiz Henrique Remains a January Target

According to Corriere dello Sport, Luiz Henrique’s name remains relevant as Roma begin planning for the winter market.

Had the Brazilian’s transfer been completed, Roma would probably not have pursued Jamie Leweling as intensely. The Giallorossi eventually reached an agreement with Stuttgart for the German winger, but the deadline-day move collapsed following uncertainty from the player.

Luiz Henrique could therefore return to the top of Roma’s list in January. The former Botafogo attacker, who was named South American Footballer of the Year in 2024, would provide the pace, directness and one-on-one ability that Gasperini wanted to add during the summer.

Luiz Henrique and Endrick Could Both Fit Roma’s Plans

Luiz Henrique should not necessarily be viewed as an alternative to Endrick. The two Brazilian attackers possess different characteristics and could potentially feature together in Roma’s plans.

Luiz Henrique is primarily a wide attacker capable of operating on either flank, while Endrick would offer another option through the middle of the attack.

Any January move will depend on the proposed transfer formulas, particularly in Endrick’s case, as well as potential departures from Roma’s squad. However, the interest in Luiz Henrique remains alive after his failed summer transfer.
