Niccolò Pisilli revealed that a painful calf cramp prevented him from properly celebrating his stoppage-time goal in Roma’s 2-0 victory over Torino.
The midfielder completed the scoring in the 93rd minute, emphatically driving the ball into the net after Gianluca Mancini won possession and created the opening inside the penalty area.
Pisilli immediately dropped to the ground instead of celebrating with his teammates, leading some viewers to wonder whether he had suffered an injury.
Speaking to DAZN after the match, the 22-year-old provided a much simpler explanation.
“I wanted to celebrate, but I had a terrible cramp in my calf,” Pisilli said.
Malen jokes about Pisilli’s celebration
Donyell Malen was standing alongside Pisilli during the interview and could not resist making fun of his teammate’s unusual reaction.
“I have never seen anyone celebrate like that,” Malen joked. “I said, ‘Bring him a chair—he can’t stand up.’”
Fortunately for Roma, Pisilli’s discomfort appeared to be nothing more serious than cramp following a physically demanding performance.
The academy graduate started alongside Bryan Cristante after Gasperini decided not to risk Manu Koné. Pisilli rewarded the coach’s confidence by scoring his first goal of the season and ensuring Roma’s fourth consecutive league victory.

Pisilli also discussed Malen’s remarkable start to the season after the Dutch forward scored Roma’s opening goal from Paulo Dybala’s assist.
“Since he arrived, Malen has had an incredible impact,” Pisilli said. “We hope he can continue like this.”
Malen has now scored six goals across Roma’s opening four Serie A matches. His determination and finishing ability have transformed Gasperini’s attack, while his developing partnership with Dybala continues to produce decisive moments.
The Roma coach praised the pair after the match, describing Dybala and Malen as two champions who complement each other.
For Pisilli, the evening represented another important step in his first-team development. His celebration may not have gone according to plan, but his finish ensured Roma departed Turin with three more points.
