Wesley has reportedly emerged as a doubt for Roma’s Serie A match against Torino after experiencing muscular discomfort during the team’s final training session.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, Roma’s medical staff are evaluating the Brazilian wing-back to determine the severity of the problem and provide Gian Piero Gasperini with guidance before he selects his starting lineup.
Torino versus Roma is scheduled to begin this afternoon at 18:30 CEST at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
Roma assessing Wesley before kickoff
Wesley was initially included in Roma’s squad for the match against Torino, but his availability is now uncertain.
The 23-year-old had already suffered a blow to his knee during Thursday’s Champions League draw with Fenerbahçe. Gasperini said before the Torino match that Wesley had been affected by the collision toward the end of the game but expected him to recover.
The latest issue is described as muscular discomfort and will require a separate assessment. Wesley has not yet been ruled out, but Roma are unlikely to take unnecessary risks if there is concern that playing could worsen the problem.
Rensch or Molina could replace Wesley
If Wesley is unavailable, Gasperini could select Devyne Rensch or Nahuel Molina on the left flank.
Rensch has experience playing on both sides, while Gasperini previously revealed that Molina could frequently be used on the left to exploit his right foot when moving inside.
Emanuele Lulli is available after recovering from a fever and remains an option on the right. His presence would allow either Rensch or Molina to move across to Wesley’s position.
The setback creates another late selection question for Gasperini, who is already evaluating Manu Koné’s condition and considering changes following the European trip to Istanbul.
