Jamie Gittens is back among Roma’s options for January, with sporting director Tony D’Amico looking to add at least one attacker to Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are considering the Chelsea winger after following him during the summer. Their preference is for a loan deal to strengthen the attack for the second half of the season.
The defeats to Real Madrid and Manchester United have sharpened the focus on Gasperini’s alternatives. Injuries and a demanding schedule have left him with fewer choices, particularly in midfield and attack.
Gittens remains on Roma’s radar
Gittens is a familiar name at Trigoria. Roma were previously linked with both the Chelsea winger and Jamie Leweling, and the latest report suggests both remain under consideration.
D’Amico will try to secure at least one attacking addition, ideally on loan. The ambition is to find someone who can contribute immediately, as Donyell Malen did after arriving last January.
The challenge is finding a player who fits Gasperini’s requirements and is available on terms Roma can accommodate.
Endrick, Leweling and Kvernadze among the alternatives
La Gazzetta dello Sport also names Endrick, Jamie Leweling and Giorgi Kvernadze among the profiles being assessed.
Roma remain in contact with Endrick’s representatives, according to Matteo Moretto, despite José Mourinho’s public stance on keeping the Brazilian at Real Madrid. His limited playing time continues to make his situation one to watch.
Leweling is another target Roma know well. The newspaper reports that an agreement had been reached on almost all aspects of a potential summer move for the Stuttgart attacker, before the transfer failed to materialise.
Kvernadze offers a different possibility. The Frosinone winger has also been linked with Roma, although his reported €4 million release clause becomes available next summer. That timing is an important distinction when considering him alongside the January options.
The shortlist contains players with different qualities and contractual situations. D’Amico’s work now is to establish which opportunity can give Gasperini the extra attacking option he needs.
